A Blow to “Barrytowners,” The Obama Fetishists

Did Steely Dan Anticipate Today’s Fainting Barrytown(ers)?

After voting for Hillary Clinton in the Rhode Island primary, I am relieved that she won my home state, as well as Ohio, and at least the popular vote in Texas.

Why, you might ask (albeit this says NOTHING about how I will vote in November)?

Exposed to repeated videos of the vacuous smiles and fainting spells of the Barrack “Barry” (Why I Am Not A Muslim)* Obama, Fetishists, this Steely Dan lyric from “Barrytown,” featured in the band’s 1974 album “Pretzel Logic,” came to mind:

I’m not one to look behind I know that times must change
But over there in Barrytown they do things very strange
And though you’re not my enemy
I like things like they used to be
And though you’d like some company
I’m standing by myself
Go play with someone else
I can see by what you carry that you come from Barrytown

In the beginning we recall that the word was hurled
Barrytown people got to be from another world

(*partial hat tip, Michael Graham, for Obama’s surrogate middle name)
